Ottawa Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic
With an estimated 14,000 residents in the Vanier and Overbrook neighbourhoods without access to a family doctor, residents and healthcare workers needed a solution — leading to the creation of Ottawa’s first Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic. Nurse practitioners provide many of the same services as family doctors, including diagnosing and treating illnesses, prescribing medication, and ordering tests. This clinic is one of only 27 of its kind in Ontario, marking Ottawa’s step forward in addressing the ongoing healthcare access crisis.
After enrolling hundreds of patients from a temporary location, the clinic sought a permanent home that could accommodate even more. CSV was engaged to lead the design and construction of the new facility, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health. The clinic serves up to 6,000 patients, significantly reducing the number of unattached residents in the community.
This publicly funded clinic provides primary care through nurse practitioners and an interprofessional team that includes dietitians, therapists, and other specialists. Services range from preventive care and chronic disease management to mental health support, health education, and referrals. The clinic will also collaborate closely with Montfort Hospital, where up to 30 percent of emergency room visits come from patients without a family doctor.
The new 6,000-square-foot facility is bright, welcoming, and filled with natural light—designed to support both patient well-being and healthcare worker efficiency. Every element of the space was planned to streamline care delivery, ensuring that the clinic’s dedicated team can focus on what matters most: supporting the health of their community.
