Supporting Indigenous Women

Funded through the Federal Government’s Rapid Housing Initiative, CSV was engaged to design a new 8-storey, 48-unit, supportive and affordable housing for those formerly experiencing homelessness. Located at 216 Murray Street in downtown Ottawa, the new residence will also include a low-barrier drop-in centre and soup kitchen. A commercial kitchen is an important part of the programming as it will serve 230 community members per meal. Two separate dining rooms will be provided which will both be served by the common kitchen.

As the project is targeted at housing indigenous women, CSV has been working with an indigenous consultant architecture firm who have engaged the community in talking circles. This process has helped CSV incorporate indigenous themes and program requirements into the design.
